A large spider with only 7 legs spins webbing

Large spiders like this look so much like crabs when extreme close-up  photos are taken that I often wonder if I can eat crab legs ever again.

A dragonfly waiting for prey along what we call the “magic road”.

Not sure what kind of insect this is, but its furry body and moth-like wings seem to indicate it isn’t a form of fly or a member of any of the wasp-like or beetle families.

Perched on the remnants of a Queen Anne’s Lace plant, this smallish dragonfly seemed to want to pose for me. It flew away and returned at least 4 times.

I’m not sure why I see this so much, but I never remember to look it up. Does the flower have something toxic to the fly, or does the fly lay eggs on the flower and then die, its journey in life complete?

I seem to have some kind of weird talent for finding horny bugs. Perhaps it is my only superpower. My best guess is that these are a species of hoverfly, although I don’t know which one – they are similar to but not the same as didea fasciata.

I don’t know if you can see it well in the thumbnail size, so full screen is likely a must – this spider was spinning a web while I watched. You can see it holding web at the bottom with its left front legs, and guiding a fine thread from its spinnerets on its rear with a rear leg while a loose piece of web is being pulled into place by legs on the right side. It was very windy, which was frustrating both the spider and me.

Selective cropping and another aged-photo old fashioned effect? What’s gotten into me? I’m being all artsy.

I usually don’t like to tinker with certain things too much so I don’t do a lot of the “old timey” effects that some folks like to add to photos, but in this case I liked the faded colour look of an “aged photo” filter.

Another difficult shot under a plant in less than idea lighting. Not the best ladybug picture, but it was much improved by cleaning up a tonne of digital noise with software.

Not absolutely sure of this species – they could be “sugar maple borers”. This was a frustrating picture to capture due to a light breeze, the insects being on the bottom of the thistle flower in a ditch on the side of the road. Could’ve been better, but at least I got something.

While visiting the grocery store, a storm rolled through – but through a hole in the cloud cover you could see these cloudy peaks which picked up the red glow of sunset, producing an effect that I thought looked a bit like glowing red eyes.
